Welcome to the e-newsletter of High Peak Disability Sports Group. Through this newsletter we hope to keep people informed, share good practice and promote sport and physical activity opportunities for disabled people in the High Peak.

1. Rebound Therapy at St Philip Howard Sports Centre


Rebound Therapy is the use of a trampoline to provide therapeutic exercise for people with disabilities and additional needs. www.reboundtherapy.org



From 18th September 2010 Rebound Therapy sessions will take place at St Philip Howard Sports Centre, supported by funding from Aiming High. The sessions will run every Saturday from 9am - 10:30am and will be led on a 1:1 basis for either 15 minute or 30 minute slots by a qualified instructor. These slots must be pre-booked.

2. High Peak Boccia Club



Re-opens Saturday 18th September at St Philip Howard Sport Centre. The club will run from 11am to 12.30pm at £3 per session and is open to people with disabilities and additional needs from 5 years to adults. The sessions will be led by qualified coaches.

High Peak Boccia Club is funded through the Derbyshire wide Go Boccia project from the Youth Opportunities Fund and has also received the 2012 Inspire Mark as a project linked to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and their legacy.

3. 5-a-side Football tournament at Hasland, Chesterfield



Young disabled people in years 8, 9, 10 and 11 are invited to enter a team in the 5-a-side football tournament hosted by Hasland Youth Club on Saturday 23rd October, 11am to 5pm.

4. High Peak Sharks News



Sharks will be back in the swim at New Mills Swimming Pool on Saturday 3rd September 2010. To join High Peak Sharks contact –

or come along to New Mills Pool any Saturday at 5.30pm and see for yourself!



5. Sport 4 All



Sport 4 all is a multi-sports club for people with learning disabilities aged 16 or over and their friends. Find them on Tuesdays at Chapel Leisure Centre Long Lane, Chapel-en-le-Frith SK23 0TQ from 7 – 8pm. Cost £2.50 per person.

6. Mencap Sport, dates for your diary

8. IBSA World Blind Football Championship 2010



The England team got as far as the semi finals in Hereford on Saturday 21st August but were beaten out of a place in the final by a strong team from Brazil who went on to win the championship.
